An arm lift or brachioplasty encompasses several different procedures to address the soft tissues of the upper arm which can become redundant as a result of gravity and aging. This redundancy can be particularly pronounced following significant weight loss. Depending on the degree of excess, either liposuction or liposuction combined with a brachioplasty is required to improve the skin contiours. With regard to the skin excision itself, moderate laxity can be improved by limiting the incision to one hidden within the armpit itself, while more pronounced skin excess requires an incision extending from the elbow to the armpit. A brachioplasty is performed by removing skin and soft tissue from the inner and lower aspect of the arm. This allows Dr. Davis to both the redrape the skin in this area and improve the support of the underlying soft tissue. The result is a much improved contour to the upper arm, especially when the arm is raised.
Recovery and Results A brachioplasty is usually performed on an outpatient basis. The surgery takes approximately 2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Patients can usually return to their normal level of activity by 3 weeks, though it is not uncommon for there to be some swelling of the hands that resolves over the course of a few weeks. If a full brachioplasty is required, there is an inconspicuously placed scar along the inner or posterior aspect of the arm, from just above the elbow to the armpit that fades over time. Follow Up Dr. Davis and his staff sees his patients frequently and regularly after their procedures. Healing properly and well is as important as the operative procedure toward achieving an excellent result. Dr. Davis is committed to excellent patient care and is always available for any future needs or questions that may arise.
