A face lift, or rhytidectomy, is a procedure designed to rejuvenate and restore your facial features to a more youthful appearance. As we age, the various features of the face will descend and droop in both common as well as individualized patterns. The neck will become lined; jowls will become more pronounced; and the cheeks can drop leaving a hollow or roll under the eyes. Whether you are experiencing lax skin, drooping soft tissue, or loose neck skin due to significant weight loss or aging, these are some of the most common areas addressed by a facelift. As each of our faces is unique, Dr. Davis will tailor your procedure to give you the most individualized and natural result.
The art of facial rejuvenation has progressed greatly in recent years, and there are many different techniques available to the modern plastic surgeon to address the various features of facial aging. In truth, there is no one universal procedure applicable to every patient. Techniques range from less invasive “mini-lifts” and short scar facelifts to deep plane, composite, and mid-facelift variations. During your consultation, Dr. Davis will evaluate your anatomy, skin and tissue quality, and facial features to tailor your procedure to give you the maximal natural result.
A youthful appearance is returned to the face and neck after the procedure. Many patients describe their appearance as a younger, refreshed version of themselves. The cheeks regain their prominence, the jaw line becomes more defined, and the jowls are lifted away along with a tighter neck. While the results are permanent, they do not stop the aging process. Some patients may opt for a second procedure a decade or more in the future, but this is highly dependent upon patient preferences and individual characteristics.
What patients will typically refer to as a face lift encompasses multiple variants of traditional techniques which have generally focused on improving the mid and lower face, as well as, the neck. But, different portions of the face age and are affected as well. Complete facial rejuvenation will often require treating multiple areas. The forehead and brows, as well as the eyelids, and lips are most commonly addressed at the same time with a facelift. Dr. Davis may also recommend an ancillary procedure such as a chin implant or cheek implant to enhance or balance the facial features at the same time.
Recovery times vary from person to person, but most patients can expect to spend the first week resting at home. Most are ready to return to work by the second week depending on the occupation. Patients are mobile and out of bed by the first post-operative day, however, it is important to avoid activities which may raise your blood pressure during the first two weeks. If you are taking pain medications, driving should be avoided, and this usually commences around the start of the second week also. Most patients return to social activities around the third week after their procedure. Vigorous physical activity or exercise can be resumed in 4 to 6 weeks.
Dr. Davis and his staff sees his patients frequently and regularly after their face lift procedures. Healing properly and well is as important as the operative procedure toward achieving an excellent result. Dr. Davis is committed to excellent patient care and is always available for any future needs or questions that may arise.
