Commonly referred to as a "nose job", rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to alter the size or shape of your nose. It can be performed to either decrease or increase the size of your nose in order to enhance facial harmony. It can also alter certain features of your nose, such as a large tip, a prominent hump, or asymmetry. The goal of rhinoplasty is a nose that looks natural and blends harmoniously with your other facial features. Through a personal consultation from his office, Dr. Davis can determine if you are an ideal candidate for nose surgery. As always, Dr. Davis will consider your face in it’s entirety to determine the specific changes to be achieved, so that your face is balanced as a whole. This may include recommending alterations to chin, cheeks, or other areas, and the final decisions are based on your desires and specific features. To aid in your evaluation and to approximate your expectations, Dr. Davis employs computer imaging to give you a complete understanding of the problem areas and the changes that can be achieved. Listed below are some general characteristics which may indicate that you are a good candidate:
On occasion, certain breathing problems related to the internal nasal structures can be corrected at the same time as a rhinoplasty is performed. If you have difficulty breathing, Dr. Davis will be able to help you determine whether these structures should be modified along with reshaping your nose. In addition, Dr. Davis may recommend an ancillary procedure such as a chin implant to balance the facial features. As always, the ultimate decision to proceed is yours. Recovery Typically, a nasal splint or covering, remains in place over the nose to protect it during the first five to seven days after your procedure. Once this is removed Dr. Davis will caution you against engaging in “contact sports” for several months to avoid injuring your nose while it completely heals. Exercise and normal physical activity can usually be resumed in three to four weeks. In addition, Dr. Davis will request that you refrain from forcefully blowing your nose for the first two weeks after your rhinoplasty. Results The results of a rhinoplasty are readily apparent immediately after your procedure, although it can take several months for the last small vestiges of swelling to completely resolve. In fact, the tip will tend to become even more refined over the the first two years after your procedure. Follow Up Dr. Davis and his staff sees his patients frequently and regularly after their rhinoplasty procedures. Healing properly and well is as important as the operative procedure toward achieving an excellent result. Dr. Davis is committed to excellent patient care and is always available for any future needs or questions that may arise.
