Breast augmentation is a popular procedure performed by Dr. Davis. Breast enlargement may be sought after to improve the silhouette of women with naturally small breasts, or frequently by those who have lost breast volume after pregnancy or weight loss. There are a significant number of choices to make prior to undergoing breast augmentation. Consequently, Dr. Davis spends a great deal of time making sure his patients are well-informed and that he has gone over all of the options.
Breast augmentation involves using silicone or saline filled breast implants to increase the volume and projection of the breasts. Various sizes, shapes, and styles of implants are available, and Dr. Davis will determine with you, the perfect choice to compliment your figure and desires. The determination of the eventual size of the augmentation is a highly personal choice. Dr. Davis is committed to achieving results that look natural and compliments a patient’s body shape and preferences. The implants are placed via small incisions under the breast, around the nipple, or in the armpit and heal inconspicuously. Most patients can expect to take about a week off of work, returning to full physical activity and exercise in about four to six weeks.
While the results of the procedure can be noticed immediately, patients will inevitably develop swelling that takes several weeks to subside. Furthermore, a patient’s breast skin envelope must also expand to accommodate it’s new shape, so the final natural breast contour and softness can take several months to become fully apparent.
Most patients can expect to spend the first few days taking it easy at home. Dr. Davis prescribes muscle relaxants and pain relievers as appropriate to keep his patients comfortable during this early period. By the end of the first week, most patients resume driving. It is typically that at this time, patients will describe a tight feeling in the chest -- especially if the implants are under the muscle, but not otherwise painful. Most patients will also return to work after a week off, but many can return in 4-5 days if motivated. For the first month or so, patients will generally be instructed to wear a support compression bra or bandeau to ensure the implants heal in the proper position. Low impact lower body exercise can be started in about 2 to 3 weeks, and unrestricted activity and full exercise can be resumed in four to six weeks.
Dr. Davis and his staff sees his patients frequently and regularly after their breast augmentation procedures. Healing properly and well is as important as the operative procedure toward achieving an excellent result. Dr. Davis is committed to excellent patient care and is always available for any future needs or questions that may arise.
